Eccentric Matter, "Lives of the Saints"
When I was a girl attending St. Florian's Catholic Elementary school, I received an award for completing all the lives of the saints in the library. Each biography told a story of a simple life lived with full grace. Still intrigued by what this might mean in the larger scope of culture and complexity, these paintings record a gesture, a visual moment when the individual contemplates being here, interacting with matter. These paintings are oil, done on cradled panels, which means there is a frame attached to the back of the birch panel for support. They are 10" x 10."
